If Utilities Are Not Large Enough To Finance Nuclear Power, Consider Smaller Nuclear Plants
On numerous occasions, I have heard speeches or read commentary by leaders in the US electric utility industry that have made the case that utilities need to partner or merge in order to have the financial heft to develop a new nuclear plant. The line of logic is something like this - official estimated cost (in then year dollars) for a complete, two unit project have ranged as high as $24 billion...

Kiplinger.com is Talking about Small Nuclear Power Plants
You can tell that the nuclear renaissance is entering the mainstream when personal finance journals like Kiplinger.com start talking about the companies and their projects and letting people know where some of the investment opportunities lie. I came across an interesting article titled Miniplants to Pave the Way for Nuclear Renaissance that comes with the following intriguing sub title: Industrial...

John R. "Grizz" Deal - CEO of Hyperion Power Generation, Inc. on The Atomic Show #104
On August 29, 2008, I spoke with John Deal, the CEO of Hyperion Power Generation about his company's plans to build 4,000 small nuclear power plants sized to be able to be transported anywhere in the world on the back of a truck. (Of course, there are places in the world not reachable by truck, but anything that can be put on the back of a standard flat bed can generally be carried via large helicopter...

Recalling the IFR experiments
I got notified via a Google Alert on "small nuclear power plants" about a post on a blog that I had not previously visited. The post was titled The Environmentalists Nuclear Debate (2) Mark Lynas . The post provided a link to a very interesting article by Mark Lynas in the New Republic titled How nuclear power can save the planet that I highly recommend reading. (I just checked out the comments...

More small reactor discussions
Apparently my meeting radar was off recently and I missed learning about the Global Nuclear Renaissance Summit in Alexandria, Virginia on 24 July until it was too late. I would have taken time from my day job, especially if I would have known that Dale Klein was going to spend some time talking about the potential for small reactors. Fortunately, one of you - thanks R. - sent me a link to an article...
