Darlington site selected to host two new reactors
The Darlington nuclear power plant in Ontario, Canada, has been selected as the site for a new plant, the provincial government announced. In addition, three reactor vendors have been invited to continue participating in the procurement process.

Application for new Swiss nuclear plant
Swiss energy company Atel has submitted an application for framework approval of a new nuclear power plant to Switzerland's Federal Office of Energy. It could result in a new reactor with a virtually vapour-free cooling tower.

Fennovoima rules out Kristinestad as plant site
Fennovoima announced that it has completed technical preplanning at four potential locations in Finland for a new nuclear power plant and has decided to proceed to technical planning at three of them. Belene contract 'opens new prospects' for Russia in Europe
The signing of a Eur4 billion contract for two new nuclear power reactors was welcomed by vendor AtomStroyExport, (ASE) which said the construction of the plant would help its chances to win further contracts in Europe.

State approvals sought for new US nuclear
Unistar Nuclear Energy (UNE) has applied to the American state of Maryland for approval for a third nuclear power reactor at its Calvert Cliffs site. Separately, a Progress Energy executive has said it would likely go ahead with new build following similar approval in Florida.

Construction of Russia's Kalinin 4 resumes
A ceremony took place at unit 4 of the Kalinin nuclear power plant on 12 November to mark the resumption of the Russian reactor's construction. During the ceremony, the first concrete was poured for the reactor building foundation slab.

Russia and China deal on uranium, enrichment and power
A top-level meeting of Russian and Chinese executives and officials has seen Russia agree to supply uranium, enrichment capacity and two new power reactors to China. Tenex are to aid the construction of enrichment cascades and supply low-enriched uranium for 11 years from 2010.
