Contemporary management at U. S. nuclear power plants compels us to reduce costs through continuous examination of those processes that impede maximizing the economic operation of the station. Outage duration, fuel duty and performance, worker productivity, and radioactive source term are critical elements of those processes. The focus of this paper is to present an overview of the source term reduction initiatives at V. C. Summer Nuclear Station and to review similar experiences from other U. S. nuclear power plants.
