Westinghouse has developed an engineering analysis method (which has been accepted by the U.S. NRC) to define the loads on baffle bolts during various normal, upset, and faulted conditions. This method can demonstrate that even with many nonfunctional bolts, the plant can still operate within its design basis requirements. In addition, the analysis provides a new basis for the number and location of replacement bolts necessary to ensure core integrity will be maintained under design conditions.
