    Britain backs new nuclear power plants

    LONDON - The British government on Thursday approved construction of the first new nuclear power plants in a generation, saying atomic energy could help fight climate change and secure the country's energy supplies in an increasingly unstable world.

    Toshiba Corporation - Owner of Westinghouse - Welcomes the UK Government's Statement on Nuclear New Build

    LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The UK Governments approval of new nuclear reactors is a major boost for the Toshiba Corporation - which two years bought Westinghouse of the US and became the owner of the AP1000 reactor which is the market leader and has already been approved by the US Government for use in all fifty States.

    Toshiba Corporation Director, Senior Executive Vice President Masao Niwano, who led Toshibas purchase of Westinghouse, said:

    "The UK Government has now become one of the world leaders in nuclear new build and we will be delighted to be their partners in bringing to the UK both security of supply and clean energy for generations to come"
