The Arizona senator will arrive at Detroit Metropolitan-Wayne County Airport in the early afternoon and go by motorcade to the Detroit Edison-owned power plant, said Leah Yoon, Mr. McCain's Michigan spokesman.
The appearance is not open to the public. Mr. McCain is scheduled to return afterward to the airport and fly to Huntington, W.Va.
John Austerberry, a utility spokesman, said the campaign stop will include a plant tour and discussions about nuclear energy with company officials.
"We are pleased to have him visit and have the opportunity to discuss with him the nuclear energy industry and the opportunities and challenges facing the industry at this point and time as it enters into a era of construction and expansion," Mr. Austerberry said.
Mr. McCain has called for construction of 45 new nuclear power plants by 2030.
